Kannaur Lokesh Rahul (KL Rahul) is an Indian International cricketer who was born on 18th April 1992 in Karnataka. He completed his schooling at the National Institute of Technology in Mangalore. Also, he finished pre-university academics at St. Aloysius College. Rahul’s parents are KN Lokesh and Rajeshwari. His love for the cricket game became evident to his parents at an early age and they supported his decision to pursue a career in cricket. KL Rahul and Athiya Shetty got married on 23rd January 2023.
Cricketing Career
Rahul’s cricket training started when he was 10 years old. After two years of getting trained in the game, he went on to play matches for various cricket clubs in Mangalore and Bangalore. When he turned 18, he shifted to Bangalore to pursue further studies at Jain University while chasing his dream to play cricket.
Rahul started his domestic cricketing career while playing for Karnataka during the 2010-11 season. The same season saw him representing his country at the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where his score totaled to 143 runs.
His debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) came in the year 2013 when he became part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. He won accolades for his performance during the 2013-14 domestic season for his score touched 1033 first-class runs to make him the second-highest scorer of that season.
Rahul’s Test debut came in the year 2014 at the Boxing Day Match Test that was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Additionally, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut in the year 2016 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. His ODI debut match saw him score a century in his ODI debut; he was the first Indian cricketer to achieve this remarkable feat. He was even proclaimed as the Man of the Series in his ODI debut. Later, during the same tour, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut.
Over the years, Rahul went on to captain IPL teams including the Kings XI Punjab and the Lucknow Super Giants.
