Pervez Musharraf Latest News Update –
Pakistani former President Pervez Musharraf aged 79 dies in Dubai after a long illness.
Pervez Musharraf, the four-star general who ruled Pakistan for nearly a decade after seizing power in a bloodless coup in 1999, has died in Dubai.
Musharraf, 79, died in hospital after spending years in self-exile following a prolonged illness.
The Pakistan Army confirmed his death in a statement, “Expressing heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of General Pervez Musharraf, former President, CJCSC and Chief of Army Staff.”
It read, “May Allah give peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.”
Pakistan President Arif Alvi “prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss,” his office said in a statement.

Musharraf was suffering from amyloidosis, a rare disease that occurs when abnormal proteins build up in organs and interfere with normal functions. He was admitted to the UAE hospital last year.
Local TV channel Geo News reported that a special flight would leave for Dubai on Monday to bring Musharraf’s body to Pakistan for burial.
Musharraf ruled as “chief executive” until 1999, before becoming president in 2001, when the 9/11 attacks on the United States occurred.
In more than seven years in office, Musharraf oversaw economic development while dodging at least three assassination attempts.
After the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in December 2007, the national mood soured further and the crushing defeat of her allies in the 2008 elections left her isolated. He resigned in 2008 and was forced into exile.
Musharraf’s plans to return to power in 2013 were dashed when he was disqualified from running in an election won by Nawaz Sharif – the man he had ousted in 1999.
The travel ban was lifted in 2016 and Musharraf went to Dubai for treatment.
Three years later, he was sentenced in absentia to death for treason, related to his 2007 decision to impose emergency rule. However, a court later quashed the decision.
Local media reported last year that he had expressed a desire to return to Pakistan and spend “the rest of his life” in his country.
